I hope to clear up some of this confusion with my complete walkthrough of the update/upgrade process. This is partly because Steinberg is transitioning from their controversial USB eLicensers to their new Steinberg Licensing copy protection scheme, and partly because the update process is complex, involving many steps across a number of apps and web pages. Here, you can also change the default graphics processor to be used for Cubase (or other applications).Ever since Cubase 12 launched, every Cubase-related message board and Facebook group I visit is full of owners of prior Cubase versions struggling to update their rigs to version 12. Select "Run with graphics processor" > "Integrated graphics". Find the Cubase 9.5.exe or the alias for it and right-click on it.Now select "Desktop" > "Add 'Run with graphics processor' to Context Menu".To do so, open the Windows control panel, then open the "NVIDIA Control Panel". Make sure the option is available in the Windows right-click context menu.Setting Cubase to run on the integrated (Intel) processor can address this issue as well. On systems with two separate GPUs (usually a combination of NVIDIA and Intel), it is often possible to select the GPU to be used with a certain application.Another option is to check for updates for your NVIDIA GPU.Is is done in the Windows device manager (right-click on the NVIDIA graphics device entry > Properties > "Driver" tab). Roll back the GPU driver to the previous version. However, there are currently three possible workarounds available: We haven't found a solution to this issue yet as only few systems show this behavior and it is not reproducible on any system at Steinberg so far. CauseĪ new graphics sub-system has been introduced in Cubase 9.5 that seems to show incompatibilities with certain NVIDIA graphics processing units (GPU) and driver versions. On the same system, earlier Cubase versions start and work just fine. Cubase's GUI (graphical user interface) is showing different errors such as flickering or incompletely drawn components. The crash dump files list a crash in the imagegenerator.dll. Cubase does not start (not even the start screen is shown).Cubase 9.5 or newer is showing at least one of the following symptoms:
